All our programs are made possible by KDE PTA members and volunteers.
Junior Achievement’s elementary school programs include grade-specific lesson themes for kindergarten through fifth-grade students. Elementary school programs teach students the basic concepts of business and economics and how education is relevant to the workplace. Volunteers go into the classroom once a week for 5 weeks to lead the Junior Achievement program.
International Night is a yearly program put on by the KDE PTA, and is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the diversity within our school, and to learn about some of the history and cultural traditions of different backgrounds. Numerous booths display crafts, flags, currency, stamps, foods, clothing, maps and photos from their country. There are also live stage performances put on by the students in the school, showcasing their country’s beautiful heritage.
Red Ribbon Week is celebrated with a variety of activities for the students that promote healthy lifestyle choices and a supportive bully-free environment at school.
World Autism Awareness Day falls on April 2nd each year. Davidson celebrates the week with awareness-raising events.
Every January, KDE hosts a Science Fair where the highlight of the week are the “student scientist” posters outlining the results of their own science experiments. The KDE PTA complements the week with other science-related programs.
BizTown is a program that the KDE fifth-grade students complete. It encompasses important elements of work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy, and provides students with a solid foundation of business, economics and free enterprise education. The program content also augments students’ core curriculum in social studies (e.g., citizenship, government), reading, writing and mathematics. Throughout the program, students are encouraged to use critical thinking skills to learn about key economic concepts as they explore and enhance their understanding of free enterprise.
The KDE PTA supports students growth and understanding the environment with a variety of programs and activities related to the earth. It is celebrated with Earth Day every year, falling on April 22nd.
